Small Inorganic Scinti Llators as Neutron Detectors
نویسندگان
چکیده
Small organic scintillators that exhibit pulse shape dflierences (PSD) in response to charged particles have been investigated as possible neutron detectors in the energy range from 1 to 200 MeV. Neutrons in this energy range can induce reactions such as (up) and (n,alpha) in these scintillators, and the cross sections for these reactions vary with energy. Pulse-height and PSD dktributions were measured as a fi.mction of neutron energy for small crystals of NaI(Tl) and CSI(T1) at the LANSCE-WNR pulsed spallation neutron source. PSD information indicating the relative numbers of protons and alphas produced can give itiormation about the neutron spectmm in fast-neutron radiation fields such as those encountered in space exploration.

Experimental and Monte Carlo studies on the response of CR-39 detectors to Am-Be neutron spectrum
Background: The Poly-Allyl Diglycol Carbonate (PADC) detector is of particular interest for development of a fast neutron dosimeter. Fast neutrons interact with the constituents of the CR-39 detector and produce H, C and O recoils, as well as (n, α) reaction. These neutron- induced charged particles contribute towards the response of CR-39 detectors. Material and Methods: Electrochemical...

Upon increasing needs and vast application of neutron detectors, especially in nuclear reactors and growing number of linear accelerators, design and manufacturing of neutron detectors is a serious demand. The aim of this project is building neutron detectors capable of compensating gamma and temperature response in a radiation media. A special thermocouple coated with Boron carbide at the junc...
متن کاملReporting detection efficiency for semiconductor neutron detectors: A need for a standard
In the past few years, there has been an increased interest in the development of alternative neutron detection technologies. Included among many promising alternative neutron detection technologies are semiconductor-based neutron detectors. These detectors are typically small and compact, hence those methods used to characterize large gas-filled neutron detectors are inappropriate. Proposed ar...
متن کاملPassive neutron area monitor with CR39
Background: In high-intensity, mixed and pulsed neutron fields the use of spectrometers or area monitors with active detectors is useless in these conditions neutron measuring devices must have a passive detector. Here a passive neutron area monitor with CR39 track detector was designed and the response was calculated. Materials and Methods: The response of a passive neutron area monitor with C...

Monte Carlo Method is used to simulate a double layer gadolinium-amorphous silicon thermal neutron detector. The detector fabricated in pixel array configuration has various applications including neutron imaging. According to the simulation results, a detector consisting of a gadolinium (Gd) film with thickness of 2-4 ~m, sandwiched properly with two layers of sufficiently thick (-30 ?µm) hydr...
